To Live in a box

December 19, 2015

You wake up daily to the sound of your baby brother and sister crying because they are still hungry from missing last night’s meal. You start to realize that you don’t have much compassion for their cries because that same hunger lives inside of you. It’s time for school and you have nothing to wear, no motivation, and no drive to be a better person. Your Father works but he’s not home much and your mother relinquishes the thought of nurturing you; it’s unfortunate that she’s never received it herself. Your grades are ok but you are taught by teachers who expect your efforts to be slim to none. They tell you after high school its jail time, a dead end job, or government assistance. You start to believe them and act in a manner that the world predestined for your life.  The days ahead become a blur and a reoccurring waste of time. Everyone in your surroundings has the same goals, the same experiences, and the same mindset. They say to themselves, “I won’t be able to make it because everything, everyone, and my every surrounding screams failure. Even though the streets wouldn’t dare speak of these feelings of hopelessness, it needs no words; it’s written in stone that poorest communities will always live in a box.

My mission is to help fix this! I just want to change the world.
